A Codman perforator is a single-use, sterile neurosurgical instrument designed to create small access holes (perforations) in the skull for procedures like craniotomies, enabling access for brain surgery, catheter placement, or drainage. These devices are known for their automatic disengagement feature, which stops the drilling once the perforation is complete and pressure is removed, preventing accidental over-drilling. The original Codman instruments, a division of Integra LifeSciences, are typically color-coded by size for easy identification and come with a Hudson end.
